Education
Joseph G. Alioto is a 1974 graduate of Marquette University High School. In 1978, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in 1981 obtained his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Throughout the years, besides attending continual legal education, Attorney Alioto has been a member of the faculty of the Seminar in the Sand, a continuing legal symposium presented each year in spring by the Justinian Society of Lawyers.
Bar Affiliations
Joseph G. Alioto is licensed to practice before all Courts in the State of Wisconsin, the Eastern and Western District Federal Courts for the State of Wisconsin, the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
He is also a member of the Wisconsin Bar, the Milwaukee Bar Association and the Waukesha Bar Association.
Joe served four different terms as President of the Justinian Society of Lawyers, an affiliate of the National Italian American Bar Association. He also served as Regional Vice President of the National Italian American Bar Association. He has been a long-standing member of the Board of Directors for both organizations.
Awards & Accolades
Attorney Joseph G. Alioto has been the recipient of accolades regarding his work as a lawyer.
Milwaukee Magazine named him as one of the top 175 lawyers in the City.
In 2001, the Justinian Society of Lawyers, an affiliate of the National Italian American Bar Association named him as Citizen of the Year. That same year, he received citations recognizing his accomplishments from the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the Judges of the First Judicial District, the County Executive for Milwaukee County, the State of Wisconsin Senate, the City of Milwaukee Common Council and the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.
Court Commissioner
In 1996, Joe was appointed a Supplemental Court Commissioner by Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Arlene Connors. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed a Supplemental Court Commissioner for Waukesha County by Judge Marianne Becker. He currently serves as a Supplemental Court Commissioner for the Honorable Marshall B. Murray, Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge.
As a supplemental Court Commissioner, Joe can preside over supplemental hearings and has the authority to perform weddings throughout the State of Wisconsin.
Community Involvement
Joe currently serves as President of the National Italian Invitational Golf Tournament for Charities. This organization was started in 1958 by Joe’s father and uncles and is the longest active ethnic charitable golf organization in the country. It awards scholarships and donates funds to charitable organizations throughout the world.
Joseph Alioto served as President of the City of Wauwatosa Police and Fire Commission. His duties included the hiring, firing and discipline of members of the Wauwatosa Police and Fire Departments from the rank and file members to the chiefs.
Joe was also on the Board of Directors of Kyle’s Corner, an organization providing counseling to children and families who have lost a parent.
